Cocktail Table - Glass Top

The table was delivered with the stand and the glass looking in fairly good condition, but I was not happy to realise that it was not in a box and the wrapping paper of the stand looked like a gift paper. Secondly the driver pulled the 4 screws out of his pocket not even wrapped and there were NO nuts to use with the screws, there was no manual to guide on how to assemble and I was trying to figure it out to put the stand and the glass top together, now it is not adjustable, not even flexible, it is stuck. I do not what to do because I want the certain height as it this is the reason I purchased the table for merely adjusting the height as much as I can. Disappointing, could you please help since the table to and stand are stuck not moving from the highest height that I do not want. It is not even steady, it looks like if you are to lean the hand on or shift it, then it will detach from stand easily and fall down and break into pieces. I am not happy about this.
